Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum jumped in celebration of Mexico's first goal in the Group A match against South Africa as the World Cup kicked off in Mexico City on Thursday (June 11).
Sheinbaum watched the opening ceremony at Banorte Stadium from a Fan Fest zone set up east of the Presidential Palace and Zocalo Square, alongside Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada.
Mexico's Julián Quinones scored the tournament's first goal in the first half, putting the entire stadium and fans gathered in downtown Zócalo Square into a celebratory mood.
