V006-VENEZUELA VISITA DELCY RODRIGUEZ ZONA CERO
Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, on Thursday (June 25) visited one of the towns hit by the two earthquakes that left a death toll of at least 188.
RodrIguez spoke from Macuto, in La Guaira, the worst-hit state after the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes on Wednesday.
The acting president said international help from the Dominican Republic and other countries was arriving to join efforts to rescue victims alive from the rubble.
Aerial footage showed the scale of the devastation, with many buildings collapsed and cracks in roads.
The disaster struck a country already grappling with years of economic turmoil that has left much of its infrastructure fragile, complicating rescue efforts and posing a crucial test for the country's interim government.
