STORY: A large electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft independently developed by a Chinese company completed a demonstration flight in Astana on Friday, marking the first time such an aircraft has taken to the skies over the Kazakh capital .

The demonstration flight was held as part of the lead-up events to the upcoming Games of the Future 2026, an international multi-sport tournament that blends physical sports with digital competition, set to be held in Astana from July 29 to August 9.

The aircraft was developed by Shanghai-based AutoFlight, featuring a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour and a range of up to 200 kilometers. For safety reasons, the flight was conducted without a pilot or passengers on board.

The flying taxi will also be on public display from July 29 to 30 in Astana.
