STORY: Student cyclists arrived in Kragujevac on Saturday (September 26), ending a ten-day tour across Serbia with a rally ahead of the October 25 parliamentary election.

A large crowd welcomed them on the main boulevard, where students raised their bicycles and waved Serbian flags.

After nearly two years of street protests, Serbia's student movement has moved into electoral politics with a newly registered candidate list.

Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic, who said in June he would resign but did not give a date, called the snap election for October 25.

“As a student, my expectations are that all of this hasn't been in vain, that these two years of struggle haven't been for nothing," said supporter Mina Stojanovic.

Some opposition parties, including the Democratic Party and Kreni-Promeni Movement, have pledged their support to the student movement and will not field candidates.

Students and opposition parties accuse Vucic and his allies of corruption and controlling the media, which they deny.
