D003-VENEZUELA DELCY SOBRE BANDERA EEUU
STORY: Venezuelan official Delcy Rodriguez welcomed the return of the U.S. flag at the U.S. embassy in Venezuela on Saturday (March 14), adding that Venezuela would soon fly its own in the U.S.
Delcy spoke at a public event in the Falcon state, after the U.S. embassy announced early in the morning that the national flag had been raised again after seven years.
"A new era has begun for relations between the United States and Venezuela. We stand with Venezuela," an embassy statement posted on X signed by U.S. charge d'affaires to Venezuela, Laura Dogu, read.
In January 2019, then-Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro cut diplomatic and political ties with the United States shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump formally recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela.
In March, the State Department informed the two countries had agreed to re-establish diplomatic and consular relations, aiming to foster a peaceful transition to elect a new government in the South American country.
