STORY: Palestinian inspected the site of an Israeli strike in Gaza's Jabalia on Wednesday (May 21).

The strike on a house killed several people, according to health authorities and witnesses at the site.

Air strikes and tank fire killed at least 34 people across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, Palestinian health authorities said. The Israeli military said air strikes hit 115 targets, which it said included rocket launchers, tunnels and unspecified military infrastructure.

Israel launched its campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas attack on Oct 7, which killed some 1,200 people by Israeli tallies and saw 251 hostages abducted into Gaza.

The campaign has killed more than 53,600 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities, and devastated the coastal strip, where aid groups say signs of severe malnutrition are widespread.

“At 12:30 a.m while people were sleeping safely, a strike shook all of al-Nozha street; windows and doors were ripped, young children woke up scared and we came here. Twelve martyrs torn in pieces. A martyr was away from the house, flew 200 or 300 meters because of the strike. Some of them were pieces, some were whole bodies.”

"Every day people wake up to massacres here in Jabalia,. The north (of Gaza) is destroyed, my brothers. People lived in destroyed houses. This house was destroyed before and those living in it lived and managed themselves. But the strike hit them and killed twelve people, teachers, young women and elderly women.”
