X608-CANADA INCENDIOS

Saskatchewan, Canadá

STORY: Dangerous wildfires burning in three Canadian provinces has prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents and left skies shrouded in a smoky orange-tinted haze.

In La Ronge, Saskatchewan, resident Trevor Anderson told Reuters the only way to evacuate was via boat, but strong wind conditions and choppy waves had made it unsafe for him and his family to leave the region. Video shot by Anderson showed hazy orange skies as wildfires raged in the distance.

There were more than 200 active fires as of Monday, 106 of which were out of control, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.

Smoke from the wildfires has started to drift into the U.S. Upper Midwest, stirring memories of the severe pollution that drifted south from Canada two years ago during that country's worst fire season on record.
