X068-ISRAEL DECLARACION HERZOG TRAS VOTACION PARLAMENTARIA
Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Wednesday (October 28), praised what he described as exceptionally high voter turnout in this week's election and urged political leaders to avoid forcing the country into another round of voting, as parties prepare for coalition negotiations.
Speaking after the election, Herzog said the turnout was a "badge of honour" for Israeli society and reflected a strong public commitment to democracy.
Herzog stressed that political leaders should work to avoid another election following years of recurring political deadlock and repeated national votes.
Under Israeli law, the president consults with elected parties after final results are certified and assigns a lawmaker, usually the leader judged most likely to secure a parliamentary majority, the task of forming a governing coalition.

"Judge Solberg will present me with the official results, and afterwards I will begin the consultation process here. I will hear from each and every faction, ask questions and hold discussions. There is only one thing that must be understood, and I said this before the election: we must do everything possible, certainly after yesterday, not to return to another election. I expect everyone who comes here to come with an open mind."
