X066-REINO UNIDO OLA DE CALOR
STORY: As temperatures continue to rise on Wednesday (June 24), morning commuters expressed trepidation over the heat across the UK.
As rail companies advised against travel unless 'essential', people said they were well-prepared for the heatwave and would continue their day as normal.
"It is too hot you know. But you've just got to get on with it," said refuse collector Andrew.
In Britain, on course for its hottest June day ever, the Met Office weather service issued only the second extreme-heat weather warning in history.
During past heatwaves people have been advised to stay at home instead of travelling, although some commuters were happier to be in office air-conditioning.
A rare weather pattern known as an Omega block was causing the record-breaking temperatures across Europe, as high as 18 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) above normal, according to the Reuters Climate Monitor.

"Well, we set up the commission to move our response to heat from being an emergency response. It's so important that people heed the warnings that we're hearing today and the next day, in terms of their own health and safety during this heat event, but to shift it from an emergency response to a systemic national resilience, because it's very clear from the way our services aren't working today, our transport networks or schools closing down that we're not prepared. But we need to get prepared for the heat that we know is coming in the years, months and years to come."

"And we need to make sure that as we're upgrading, refurbishing, rebuilding our schools, that we have heat at the top of the agenda. And it's the same for our transport networks. Just last year, during July to September, there were 15 days of severe disruption. This came from the Office of Road and Rail. Six of those were associated with heat. So as we move to Great British Railways as an opportunity to again make sure that we are preparing for the heat, the floods of the future."
