X055-NORUEGA METTE-MARIT ACTO OFICIAL TRAS PROCESAMIENTO DE SU HIJO

27 de agosto 2025 - 17:59

Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit celebrated the 100th birthday of the royal summer residence, Gamlehaugen, near Bergen on Tuesday (August 26) in one of her first engagement since her son Marius Borg Hoiby was charged with several offences including rape.

Mette-Marit was accompanied by her husband, Crown Prince Haakon, Hoiby's stepfather, who said last week that the royal family would continue to carry out official duties while Hoiby stands trial next year.

Hoiby, 28, was charged on August 18 with 32 criminal offences, including the rape of four women as well as domestic violence and assault.

Hoiby denies the most serious accusations against him, including those of rape and domestic violence, but plans to plead guilty to some lesser charges in court when the trial starts, his lawyer told Reuters on Monday.

He could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of the most serious charges in a trial expected to start in January and run for six weeks, the prosecutor in the case has said.

King Harald and Queen Sonja were also at Tuesday's celebrations.

The institution of the monarchy is firmly ensconced, and widely regarded as a symbol of Norway's sovereignty.
