"Jamaica's gone through what I can call one of its worst period. Our infrastructure has been severely compromised. St. Elizabeth is the breadbasket of the country, and that has taken a beating. The entire Jamaica has felt the brunt of Melissa."

"Up to four o'clock this afternoon. Over 530,000 Jamaicans representing 77.3% of GPS customers island-wide are without electricity. Work is presently on the way to restore our service to give priorities to the critical facilities such as hospitals and water and pumping stations, weather permitting."

"The Falmouth hospital was affected by storm surge and high water level in surrounding areas. We also see the Nowell Wombs and the Cornwall Regional Hospital has been impacted by flooding and strong and strong winds with structural damage. The Black River Hospital in St. Elizabeth is without power and section of the roof is damaged. The Ministry of Health and Wellness is conducting an evaluation of the situation. And 75 patients were removed from that hospital to safety.''

Along Kingston’s shoreline, waves pounded against rocks and seawalls as gray skies hung over the city. Locals ventured out to glimpse the angry ocean, phones in hand to capture the storm’s force. “It’s serious here, you know?” said one resident as gusts whipped through the area. "The fact that we take a wide turn and go around, it benefits me. I'm really sorry for who really touched, because they're my fellow Jamaicans and we are love, right? And you know how I'm gonna talk to many of them people, we are one. So we're really sorry, really, who get damaged. But trust me, it's not no joke. It's not a joke."

"I was thinking to myself, that's why. Because the storm was like coming off. And if you look at it, it would be like we get in some dangerous thing and it just diverts and shifts and take it to most of the countryside. I was saying, yeah, God is saying something to somebody down there. I'm saying something to the people down there."
