SHOWS: President Donald Trump said on Monday (March 9) that the United States is waiving certain oil-related sanctions as a way to ensure adequate oil supply flowing from the region.

Trump's comments come as Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Tuesday (March 10) they would not let any oil be shipped from the Middle East if U.S. and Israeli attacks continue.

The rhetoric did little to quell a fall in crude prices and a rally in global shares that followed Trump expressing confidence in a swift end to hostilities.

3. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT, DONALD TRUMP, SAYING:

"We want to keep it that way. As we continue Operation Epic Fury, we're also focused on keeping energy and oil flowing to the world. And I will not allow a terrorist regime to hold the world hostage and attempt to stop the globe's oil supply. And if Iran does anything to do that, they'll get hit at a much, much harder level. I will take out those targets that were easy and that I mentioned just before. We'll take them out so quickly. They'll never be able to recover, ever."

5. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT, DONALD TRUMP, SAYING:

"We're also waiving certain oil related sanctions to reduce prices. So we have sanctions on some countries, we're going to take those sanctions off until this straightens out. Then who knows? Maybe we won't have to put them on. There'll be so much peace. But when the time comes, the U.S. Navy and its partners will escort tankers through the strait if needed. I hope it's not going to be needed, but if it's needed, we'll escort them right through."

Trump said Iran's Supreme Leader Mojitaba Khamenei was a disappointing choice.

REPORTER: "How can there be an Iran…”

TRUMP: “Well, I don't want to, I don't want to say that. But, you know, I was disappointed because we think it's going to lead to just more of the same problem for the country. So I was disappointed to see their choice.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Iran is unlikely to resume negotiations with the United States following recent hostilities, citing what he described as a “bitter experience” with past talks.

Speaking to journalist Amna Nawaz on PBS NewsHour from Tehran, Araqchi said that despite progress during previous rounds of negotiations, U.S. actions undermined the diplomatic process, making further dialogue with Washington unlikely to return to Iran’s agenda.

Australia on Tuesday (March 10) agreed to provide visas to five of Iran's women's soccer team players to stay in the country after they sought asylum fearing persecution in their home nation.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said the five players had been moved to a safe location by the Australian Federal Police.

Iranian media named the players as Zahra Sarbali, Mona Hamoudi, Zahra Ghanbari, Fatemeh Pasandideh and Atefeh Ramazani-Zadeh.

Soccer's global players' union FIFPRO said on Monday (March 9) there were serious concerns for the welfare of the Iran team after they were labelled "wartime traitors" for refusing to sing their national anthem before a game.

Eyewitness footage on social media overnight showed attacks in the region in Iraq and Bahrain. In northern Iraq, dark smoke was seen rising and a fire burning near the United Arab Emirates (UAE) consulate in Erbil after Iraqi Kurdistan's counter-terrorism service reported downing three drones in the area, with debris from one falling close to the consulate.

Reuters was able to verify the location of the video from buildings and road layout that matched file and satellite imagery. Exact time of the footage not verified but Iraqi Kurdistan's counter-terrorism service said late on March 9 that it had downed three drones in Erbil, with debris from one of the drones falling near the UAE consulate. No older versions of the video were found posted online before March 9, 2026. Corroborating videos of the incident showed the same smoke shape from the direction of the UAE consulate. UAE’s foreign ministry condemned a drone attack on its consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan's Erbil, in a statement early on Tuesday (March 10).

Eyewitness footage released on Tuesday (March 10) showed debris on a road and sidewalk in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, after Iran reportedly struck a residential building and killed one person.

Reuters was able to verify the location of the video from the shape, position and colour of buildings, a signboard and road layout matched file imagery.

The date of the video is not verified but Bahrain’s interior ministry on Tuesday said one woman died and eight people were injured in an Iranian attack on a residential building in Manama. No old versions of the video were found posted online before Tuesday.

The U.S. military on Monday (March 9) released footage it said showed missile launches and aircraft takeoffs during the Iran conflict.

U.S. Central Command shared visuals of the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. and USS Gerald R. Ford conducting operations in support of Operation Epic Fury.

Reuters was not able to independently verify the location or filming date of the videos, though no earlier versions were found online before March 9. In shot one, the ship’s mast, fire control radar, gun turret and superstructure matched file images of the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. In shot two, the flight deck layout aligned with file images of the USS Gerald R. Ford.
