STORY: The Norwegian Refugee Council told Reuters on Tuesday (July 22) its aid stocks are completely depleted in Gaza, with some of its staff now starving, and accused Israel of paralysing its work.
"Our last food parcel, our last relief items have been distributed. There is nothing left," Jan Egeland, the secretary general of the council said in Oslo.
The council's comments echo those made earlier on Tuesday by the head of the Palestinian refugee agency, who said UNRWA's staff were fainting on the job from hunger and exhaustion.
The NRC says that for the last 145 days, it has not been able to get hundreds of truckloads of tents, water, sanitation, food and education materials into Gaza.
COGAT, the Israeli military aid coordination agency, and Israeli authorities did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It has denied accusations that it is preventing aid from reaching Gaza, and has accused Palestinian militant group Hamas of stealing food, which Hamas denies.
Egeland said the NRC's supplies of safe drinking water are also running out, due to dwindling supplies of fuel to run desalination plants. The water has reached 100,000 people in central and northern parts of Gaza in recent weeks
An Israeli official told Reuters there is about a half a million litres of fuel that the U.N. has been given approval to bring in.
"They're bringing in fuel and collecting, but they can bring in and they can collect more, and we are having discussions with them," the official said.
The official also said that there are about 700 trucks of unpacked aid on the Gaza side of the Kerem Shalom crossing which have not been distributed.

"Our last food parcel, our last relief items have been distributed. There is nothing left. There is nothing left. It's now 145 days without any supplies. And of course, there are hundreds of truckloads just for my organisation waiting to get in. That's why we are so angry. Because our job is to help women, children, the innocent survive. And we're not used to people - beyond Assad in Syria, beyond some of the armed groups in the Congo or in Sudan - denying us access. We're not used to a government supported by Western capitals systematically starving entire populations."

"Much of our work has come to a halt because of Israel's stranglehold on the population of Gaza. They are not letting in our trucks. So for 145 days and nights, we haven't gotten in anything, anything. Hundreds of truckloads have been sitting in warehouses or in Egypt or elsewhere and costing us and our western European donors a lot of money, but they are blocked from coming to the population in Gaza. In the last few weeks, our main service has been that of providing safe drinking water to nearly 100,000 people through the desalination of water and the trucking of water to some of the many displacement camps in sight. That is now threatened like everything else because of relocation and because of lack of fuel."

"We who have been there for a generation in Gaza and in war zones for 79 years, have been denied continuation of our work. One organisation has done that before against the NRC in Gaza, and that was Hamas, because Hamas also tried to interfere. We laid down work when they tried to interfere. They invaded our offices. We did not yield. In the end, Hamas yielded. and we were allowed to continue work. Israel is not yielding. They just want to paralyse our work."

"Well, we do not have any supplies left. There is nothing in our storage rooms. Our staff is also starving. They fear for the future. And many staff who said, we want to be here forever to help our brothers and sisters basically say, 'we're now fearing for the lives of our children. We cannot continue in this situation'. So it is beyond urgent that there is a ceasefire, there is an opening of the borders, and that the 25 foreign ministers who said there will be consequences, unless Israel opens the borders and stops the bombing of civilians, that there is consequences."
