U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (September 29) that artificial intelligence companies should largely police themselves, saying he was seeing “tremendous self-policing” from the industry as he met leading technology executives.

Trump said companies understood the need to manage the technology's risks and were “really going to be policing each other,” while adding that his administration was considering forming a committee to oversee the industry.

Executives including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also addressed AI safety, while Tesla CEO Elon Musk said advances in AI and robotics could eventually lead to “universal high income.”
