STORY: SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral late on Tuesday (January 27), sending the GPS III‑9 satellite to medium‑Earth orbit for the U.S. Space Force, the company said on its website.
The rocket lifted off from Space Launch Complex 40 at 11:53 p.m. local time (0453 GMT, January 28), with SpaceX streaming the mission live on its X account.
After stage separation, the first‑stage booster landed on one of Space X's autonomous drone ships stationed in the Atlantic Ocean early on Wednesday (January 28).
SpaceX said the mission proceeded as planned, with fairing separation, second‑stage burns and deployment events occurring on schedule.
The GPS III‑9 spacecraft was deployed about 90 minutes after liftoff, completing the mission.
