A plane believed to be carrying CIA Director John Ratcliffe landed in Riga on Tuesday (August 25) after a reported trip to Moscow.

VIdeo filmed at the Riga International Airport showed US Air Force Boeing C-17A Globemaster III landing on one of the runways.

Call signed RCH4555, the plane landed in Riga's airport at 19:52 local time (16:52 GMT), according to Flightradar24 data.

Reuters confirmed the location as the Riga International Airport from the runway, buildings and signs seen in the video, which matched satellite and archive imagery of the area. Coordinates: 56.922545, 23.975164.

The date when the footage was recorded was verified from the file’s original metadata and flight monitoring information.

The aircraft seen in the video was verified as a Boeing C-17A Globemaster III from the engines, the wings and the tail.

U.S. media outlets reported, citing unnamed sources, that Ratcliffe travelled to Moscow for meetings with Russian officials.

Neither U.S. nor Russian officials immediately commented on the flight to Moscow or confirmed that Ratcliffe was on board.

The visit would be the first known visit to the Russian capital by a U.S. spy chief since Ratcliffe's predecessor, William Burns, held talks with Vladimir Putin in November 2021. About three months after that meeting, the Russian president launched Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

The CIA declined to comment. The Kremlin did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
