STORY: Portugal's soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo and Tesla CEO Elon Musk joined U.S. President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at a black-tie White House dinner on Tuesday (November 18), capping a visit aimed at showcasing deepening U.S.-Saudi ties.

Trump hosted the Saudi crown prince at the White House as Riyadh seeks to tighten its strategic partnership with Washington.

During the dinner, Trump announced the United States would designate Saudi Arabia a "major non-NATO ally," a status that brings military and economic benefits short of a formal defense pact.

The dinner guest list underscored both the political and commercial stakes of the relationship. In addition to Ronaldo and Musk, attendees included FIFA President Gianni Infantino, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.

Trump praised bin Salman for what he called Saudi Arabia's "extraordinary strides" and "modern day miracle" transformation, touting massive Saudi investments in the United States.

He said the kingdom had previously pledged $600 billion and that the crown prince had agreed to increase that to $1 trillion, including new agreements on civil nuclear energy, critical minerals and artificial intelligence.

On Ronaldo's presence, Trump joked that his son Barron "respects his father a little bit more now" after being introduced to the footballer. Ronaldo, who plays for Saudi club Al-Nassr, attended as a symbol of the kingdom's growing use of sports to boost its global profile.

Bin Salman called the day "special," saying the economic horizon between the two countries was widening. He said a raft of new agreements would "open the door" to deeper cooperation and promised to focus on implementing and expanding opportunities in the U.S.-Saudi partnership.
