STORY: An avalanche hit a ski resort in the Swiss region of Zermatt, Valais on Tuesday (February 17) as local authorities issued an alert due to the high avalanche danger.

The buildings, road layout and the mountains seen in the video matched file imagery of the area. The date when the video was recorded was verified by the metadata on the original video file.

The highest avalanche warning of level 5 was issued on Tuesday, according to local media, however this was lowered to level 4 on Wednesday.
