X004-GAZA DESPLAZADOS DE CIUDAD DE GAZA
STORY: Palestinians fleeing Gaza City moved along the coastal road in central Gaza on Wednesday (September 24), with some waiting for transport after what they described as increasingly intense military operations in recent days.
“We were determined to stay in our neighbourhood, in Sabra, and not leave, but the situation we saw was extremely dangerous and difficult," said Umm Mohammed, displaced with her two daughters.
Israeli forces pushed deeper towards the heart of Gaza City, and tanks have been seen in populated and built-up areas on Wednesday, as local health authorities said Israeli fire killed at least 29 people across the enclave, most of them in Gaza City.
Israel has regularly said it takes steps to avoid hitting civilians. Israel says it is seeking to eliminate militants from Hamas, which attacked southern Israel from Gaza in 2023, and free hostages still held by the group.
Hamas' October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel killed 1,200 people, and 251 others were taken hostage, according to Israeli tallies.
Israel's two-year-long campaign has killed more than 65,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to Gazan health authorities, and has spread famine, demolished most buildings, and displaced most of the territory's population, in many cases multiple times.
