V609-ISRAEL ENTREVISTA NETANYAHU
STORY: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday (June 19) that the change or fall of the Iranian regime was not a goal of Israel's military campaign but could occur as a result.
"The matter of changing the regime or the fall of this regime is first and foremost a matter for the Iranian people. There is no substitute for this. And that's why I didn't present it as a goal. It could be a result, but it's not a stated or formal goal that we have," Netanyahu told Israeli public broadcaster Kan.
In regard to the supposed cancellation of his son Avner's impending wedding that was originally planned for Friday June 13, Netanyahu said his family understood why it was necessary to cancel the event, denying he had informed his family of any details of military plans with Iran.

1. (SOUNDBITE) (Hebrew) ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU SAYING:
"Our primary objective is to stop the nuclear program and remove it as a threat. The second goal is to halt the advancement of ballistic capabilities, also to remove it as a threat. In the process, it's clear the regime is destabilizing — we're also hitting government-related targets and centres of power. You've seen this with the broadcast centre, and there’s more to come. But the matter of regime change is, first and foremost, up to the Iranian people. There is no shortcut to that. Therefore, I have not set it as an official or declared goal — it may be a result, but it is not an explicit objective of our operation."

"But when I decided that we didn't know that we will succeed, nobody goes to war and knows how it begins and how they'll come out of it but I knew that we didn't have a choice. And I was asked what if we don't get a green light from the Americans. Do you know what I said? We're not asking for a green light. We will do what we have to either way."

(INTERVIEWER AYALA HASSON ASKING IN REGARD TO THE SUPPOSED CANCELLATION OF HIS SON AVNER'S WEDDING (HEBREW): "There are plenty of weddings cancelled in Israel, or God forbid not cancelled but postponed. You're the one father in this country that has some control over this, did it not bother you? Did you receive pressure at home? Maybe next week?")
NETANYAHU: "No, first of all, Avner and his fianceé and the family didn't know. I couldn't tell them."
(INTERVIEWER): "Your wife didn't know?")
NETANYAHU: "My wife only knew one technical thing that I can't specify right now in order to get some things in order but operational things, of course not."
(INTERVIEWER: "Were they mad at you afterwards?)
NETANYAHU: "No, they understood it later, but it is very difficult. It is the second time Avner's wedding is cancelled."
