STORY: U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday (July 3) he is willing to let migrant laborers remain in the United States if the farmers who employ them are willing to vouch for them. Speaking at a campaign-style event at the Iowa state fairgrounds, Trump said his administration is working with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on legislation to address labor shortages in agriculture and the hospitality sector.

“We don’t want to do it where we take all of the workers off the farms,” Trump said, noting that some migrant workers have been on the same farms for more than a decade. “We’ve got to work with the farmers… and people that have hotels and leisure properties too.”

While Trump has maintained a hard-line stance on immigration, he appeared to signal flexibility for industries that rely heavily on seasonal or undocumented labor.

Trump also used the rally to celebrate the congressional passage of what he called a “big, beautiful bill,” which he said delivers on key campaign promises. He described the legislation as the largest tax cut, spending cut, and border security investment in U.S. history.

“There could be no better birthday present for America,” he said.

Toward the end of his speech, Trump warned against what he called the growing influence of far-left ideologies in U.S. politics. He singled out New York, accusing state leaders of backing a “communist” candidate, Zohran Mamdani, and claimed the city was at risk of falling into anarchy. “I love New York, and we’re not going to let him destroy it,” he said.
