V074-GAZA EXODO PALESTINOS
Displaced Palestinians fled on Friday (August 29) from one area to another within Gaza City, as Israel pounded the city's outskirts.
Israel's military stepped up armed operations around Gaza City on Friday, ending temporary pauses there that had allowed for aid deliveries, as it announced the recovery of the body of Ilan Weiss, a hostage seized by Hamas.
Some people loaded their belongings on vehicles and animal-led carts.
Ahmed Al-Ayoubi, a Palestinian man in the area, said he was unsure where to go to with his family.
Israel is pushing ahead with a plan to take full control of the whole Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City, with the goal of destroying Hamas after nearly 23 months of war, while facing a global outcry over starvation in the besieged enclave.
The assault on Gaza City has gradually intensified over the past week as Israel has urged civilians to leave for the south of the Palestinian enclave.
The Israeli military's Arabic-language spokesman said the military was operating with great intensity on the outskirts of Gaza City and would "deepen our strikes" as it pressed its assault.
The war broke out when Hamas-led militants launched a surprise, cross-border attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking another 251 hostage, according to Israeli figures.
Israel's military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 63,000 people in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to Gaza health officials.

"The entire area has become dangerous. People have left. I want to leave, but I don’t know where to go. I cannot find a place. I started taking my belongings bit by bit, taking them to people. Some (of the things) I left with people. Can you hear the shooting (gunfire)? I take some things to some people, and other things to other people. My wife and children are waiting for me in the street. Where will I take them, I don’t know, until now. To the south or not the south? There is nowhere for us to go. I don’t have a tent—my tent is trapped in Shejaia, under the rubble, and I haven’t managed to get it out."

“I will move from one place to another in Gaza, until God makes it easier for us, until I find a tent, find a place or something. I don’t know where to go exactly, and I can’t make a decision. My mind can’t make a decision; due to the extent of the displacement that we are in.”
