Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday (May 8) said he visited the frontline in the southeast, where troops managed to regain control over small chunks of land in recent months.

The Ukrainian presidential press service published a video showing Zelenskiy awarding soldiers of the 31st Separate Mechanised Brigade.

He thanked them on the anniversary of the end of WWII when Europe defeated Nazi Germany saying "just as we defeated one form of fascism, we will defeat the other too."

Zelenskiy said on X that he listened to a report on the situation at the front from Ukraine’s top military commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

"Despite the announced ceasefire, the enemy has not reduced the intensity of its assaults," he said on X.
