Drone footage obtained by Reuters showed widespread destruction in the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, where fighting has been raging for months.

Burnt fields and shattered buildings dominate the landscape, with smoke rising from a ruined structure.

Reuters was able to confirm the location of the video as Pokrovsk from the buildings, road layout and fields which matched satellite imagery of the area. The date when the video was recorded was verified by original file metadata.

Ukrainian troops have held their positions in the northern part of Pokrovsk, Kyiv's top military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Thursday (December 5).

His statement came three days after Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed what his commanders described as the full capture of Pokrovsk as an important victory.
