V054-BELGICA ENVIO AYUDA HUMANITARIA GAZA

Gaza

Belgium's air force continued its airdrop of aid packages into Gaza, in images released by its defense ministry on Friday (August 8).

According to the ministry, since Sunday (August 3), Belgium has delivered approximately 71 tonnes of humanitarian goods dropped over the Gaza Strip.

Since March, Israel has restricted the flow of aid and goods into the enclave in what it said was pressure on Hamas militants to free the remaining hostages they took in their October 2023 attack on Israel.

Far-right allies in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition have been pushing for a total takeover of Gaza as part of his vow to eradicate Hamas militants, though the military has warned this could jeopardize the lives of remaining hostages.

The decision came after multiple failed attempts to mediate a ceasefire and amid a rising international outcry over images of starving Palestinian children underlining a deepening humanitarian disaster in the shattered enclave.
