SHOWS: Medics, police officers and investigators arrived at a school in Thailand on Friday (August 7), where a student opened fire before killing himself, authorities said. The incident took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province north of Bangkok. Police identified the perpetrator as a student.

A high school student recounted the moment a school shooting unfolded, describing how he heard gunfire as the attack killed seven people in Thailand's Nonthaburi province. A rescuer at the scene also described the moments when two bodies were found, and many students were injured.

"We started hearing some noise in Building 5 and we had no idea what happened after that. At first, I thought they were sounds of firecrackers or someone banging on something loudly. But then we started realising they were not (firecrackers)."

An emergency worker described rushing to treat the gunman who shot himself. Kiatikhun Verapongpradith, a volunteer with the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, one of Thailand's voluntary emergency rescue organisations, said he rushed to the school after learning there was an active shooter.

“When our team was standing by downstairs (during the active shooting), we heard one gunshot, and police told us there was one injured person. So we rushed up and found that the perpetrator had shot himself in the right side of the head and collapsed. When we got up there, we checked his pulse, he still had one, so we started CPR. As soon as we saw signs during CPR, we had the team bring a board up to carry him to the hospital.”

"I've sent relevant officials to the area. This is horrible, it shouldn't have happened."

REPORTER ASKING: "Do you have anything to say to the families of the deceased?"

"I'm very sad that this has happened. I'm not only sad for the deceased, I'm sad by the fact that this kind of incident could happen in our country."

Addressing mental health concerns, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yodchanan Wongsawat said that an action plan would be announced shortly. "In terms of care measures, including various forms of support, this will cover both teachers and students," Wongsawat said.

"(Dealing with) mental health problems would be mandatory, because that would be something that we also copied (from) the Department of Psychology or the Ministry of Public Health, and try to inspect all the things that happened. They have experience with this before, (to make) and for some of the rules and regulations and the action plans that we will announce shortly. Right now we are talking to them about the plan, at least for this school, for the teachers and also for the students."

Video from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation showed bags littering a classroom floor, with chairs and tables overturned, and bullet casings on the ground in a staircase. Still photographs meanwhile showed emergency crews outside a house said to be the shooter’s residence where he killed his grandparents on Friday before opening fire at the school.
