V020-DINAMARCA ADMITE ATAQUES CON DRONES
STORY: Denmark has in recent days been subjected to “hybrid” attacks involving drones over critical, military and civilian sites, prime minister Mette Frederiksen said in a video statement on Thursday (September 25).
The incursions forced Aalborg airport, used for commercial and military flights, to shut for three hours on Wednesday, while Billund airport, Denmark's second-largest, was closed for an hour, police said. Both reopened on Thursday morning.
The prime minister said authorities have raised the alert level and are deploying more police and armed forces with anti-drone capabilities around critical infrastructure, while working with allies to quickly bolster Denmark’s ability to detect and counter drones.
Copenhagen is in close contact with NATO and European partners on assistance to defend Danish airspace, the prime minister said, after speaking with several European leaders and the NATO chief.
Flight tracking service FlightRadar24 said there are fresh reports of drone sightings at Aalborg in Denmark early on Friday, marking he second night in a row the airspace over Aalborg Airport has been closed.
