Chinese President Xi Jinping gave U.S. President Donald Trump a rare, private tour of Beijing’s walled-off Zhongnanhai compound in the concluding hours of their summit on Friday (May 15).

Among the notable ancient trees that Xi showed Trump included the famous “Lianli Bai” — two cypress trees whose trunks have grown together.

A hot mic captured the leaders' remarks, in which Trump expressed surprise that some of the trees were 1,000 years old.

Trump also asked Xi if other foreign leaders were also received in the compound.

"Very rarely," Xi responded. "At first, we usually didn’t hold diplomatic events here. Even after we started having some, it’s still extremely rare. For example, Putin has been here."

"Good. I like it," Trump replied.

U.S. President Trump departed on Air Force One on Friday (May 15) after his two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Trump was seen off by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
