STORY: A Bolivian court on Thursday (August 20) suspended the pretrial detention hearing for Fernando Cerimedo, who is under investigation for the alleged attempted femicide of his former romantic partner Nadia Beller, and rescheduled it for Friday afternoon (August 21). The hearing was postponed due to the absence of the Public Prosecutor's Office, according to Beller's lawyer Jerjes Justiniano. Cerimedo was arrested Monday night (August 17) following an armed attack on Beller by two men, with prosecutors requesting formal charges, maximum preventive detention, and his placement in the Chonchocoro maximum security facility. Forensic analysis of Cerimedo's seized cell phone revealed conversations in which he allegedly discussed eliminating Beller, Justiniano said. Prosecutors argued there are indications and preliminary evidence suggesting Cerimedo may have been the perpetrator or participant in the alleged crime. Beller, who identified Cerimedo as the main person responsible for the attack, received medical treatment following the incident while authorities continue investigating who ordered and carried out the assault.
