Family members of those missing in Nepal's devastating floods remained hopeful on Friday (August 28), as they awaited news of their loved ones while rescue operations intensified.

Grieving relatives searched for the names of missing flood victims on lists put up by rescuers, displayed on a board at a military training centre in Nuwakot.

Rescuers are searching for nearly 1,500 people across Nepal and China’s Tibet after a wall of mud and rock collapsed into a Himalayan river on Wednesday. Of those missing, at least 540 are foreigners.

The death toll reached 469, Nepal police said on Friday.
