V007-MEXICO HURACÁN LORENA
Streets throughout Mexico's Los Cabos were left flooded and covered in thick mud on Wednesday (September 3) after Hurricane Lorena passed near the popular tourist destination, bringing heavy rains and strong winds that damaged roads and stranded vehicles.
Although Lorena did not make landfall in the region, the storm's outer bands caused significant flooding as its eye came within 200 kilometers of Los Cabos at its closest approach.
Videos from the area showed muddy water flowing down streets, with several vehicles stuck in the debris-filled floodwater and residents attempting to navigate the treacherous conditions on foot and motorbike.
The hurricane has since weakened to a tropical storm and continues moving north through Baja California Sur, where it is expected to make landfall on Saturday (September 6) in a sparsely populated area.
Weather officials warn that the storm's rain bands could still cause flooding across several regions of the state, with particular concerns about potential landslides in mountainous areas.
