STORY: Heavy rain and strong winds swept across New York City on Thursday (October 30).

Videos show vehicles submerged and driving through floodwaters, bringing major disruptions for New York City commuters.

In a post on X, the NYC Emergency Management said some areas saw record-breaking rainfall, with 1.80 inches recorded in Central Park—surpassing a 1917 record—and 1.97 inches at LaGuardia Airport, breaking the previous record set in 1955.

New York City Emergency Management urged residents to avoid flooded streets and to stay clear of downed trees and power lines.

The National Weather Service issued a wind Advisory for all five New York boroughs through midnight on Friday (October 31).
