Clashes erupted in Buenos Aires on Thursday (Aug. 6) during a protest outside Congress over a controversial "Inviolability of Private Property" bill, which critics say would facilitate foreign acquisition of land.

Police fired rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannon at protesters, who hurled objects at security forces.

Thousands of Argentines marched to the Congress building to protest the reform. The legislation has sparked fierce opposition from unions, social organizations and war veterans, who accuse the government of trying to sell off national sovereignty.
