STORY: Pakistani security sources released a monochrome video on Friday (February 27) showing what they say are airstrikes in Kabul.

Reuters was able to verify the location from road layout and position of buildings which matched satellite imagery of the area. The shape of the mountain seen matched topography mapping. Reuters could not confirm the date of the footage, but Pakistani ministry of information and broadcasting said on a Facebook post on February 26 they had struck targets in multiple locations in Afghanistan and Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on X on February 27 that airstrikes were carried out in Kabul. No older versions of the footage were found online upon checking.

Pakistan struck targets inside Afghanistan's major cities overnight, both Pakistani and Taliban officials said on Friday, as cross-border fighting intensified following months of tensions and skirmishes between the two countries.

Security sources in Pakistan said the strikes involved air and ground strikes against Taliban posts, headquarters and ammunition depots in multiple sectors along the border.

Both sides reported heavy losses, issuing sharply differing figures that Reuters could not independently verify.
