Hundreds of people in Venezuela were trapped under rubble and many more remained unaccounted for on Thursday (June 25) after two powerful earthquakes devastated areas in and around the capital Caracas, killing nearly 190 people, damaging hundreds of buildings and leaving thousands homeless.

Aerial footage provided by the World Central Kitchen showed scenes of destruction in the aftermath of the deadly quakes.

Reuters verified the location by the shape of pools, buildings, trees, storage containers and the shape of the beach that matched satellite and archive imagery. The coordinates of the video are: 10.613573, -67.022941. Local media has reported that two earthquakes struck northern Venezuela on June 24, 2026. Reuters verified the date by corroborating satellite imagery from June 25 showing collapsed buildings. WCK released a statement indicating their team was on their way to Venezuela.

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck about 160 km (100 miles) west of Caracas on Wednesday (June 24) evening, followed less than a minute later by a magnitude 7.5 tremor, the strongest since 1900, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The disaster hit a country already weakened by years of economic turmoil, which left much of its infrastructure fragile and complicated rescue efforts as aftershocks rattled the capital and surrounding coastal areas.
