V004-UCRANIA ATAQUE ZAPORIYA ESTA NOCHE
STORY: A Russian attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia late on Thursday (November 20) killed five people and injured three, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said.
The governor had earlier issued a warning of an impending attack by Russian guided bombs. Emergency services were deployed to fight fires and evacuate wounded civilians.
Nearly four years since Putin sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine, Russian forces are grinding forwards and control about 19% of Ukraine - Moscow says four of its regions are now legally part of Russia, though Ukraine and Western European powers say they will never formally accept that.
Putin set out his core conditions in June 2024, demanding Kyiv renounce its plans to join the U.S.-led NATO military alliance and withdraw troops from the entirety of the four provinces Moscow claims as part of Russia: Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine - which make up the Donbas - plus Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south.

"Many people and rescue teams arrived to clear away the debris. (Journalist: Did you see any dead people?) Yes, there was a body here. As reported, four people were killed. There's a 24-hour shop at the bus stop. A woman worked there, but I don't know... I want to confirm whether she might have been killed too. The hit was directly there. (Journalist: Did you see exactly where it was hit?)
I understood that it was hit in the centre of the road, where there is a bus stop "Zavodska Street". There are shops here by the main road. The market is there too. The rescuers immediately cordoned off the area, so we weren't allowed to go there."

"We went into the hallway on the ninth floor, where we live. We heard a loud explosion. It was not like anything we had experienced before. My relatives called to tell us that the balcony windows had been blown off. We packed and came here with my wife. My wife went to see my relatives. I went to see if anybody needed my help. There were police officers there. Two people were lying on the ground: one was conscious and the other was not. The shop by the bus stop had been torn from one side. I went inside with a policeman and another man to check if anyone was alive or injured, because this shop is open 24 hours a day. When we approached, we saw that the door had been torn off. We started clearing the rubble. I saw a woman's head. Some women at the back were screaming, "Mum, mum!" but I didn't recognise her. I checked her pulse, but I couldn't feel it. I thought it might just be weak, so I pressed harder. We continued clearing the rubble. Two more police officers arrived. We cleared the rubble from one side. A policeman and I began pulling her out. She had a lacerated wound, and I confirmed that she didn't have a pulse. We pulled her out. As she had abdominal injuries, we stopped pulling her out so that the paramedics could attend to her."
