Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon attempted to hand an Iranian diplomat the Starlink terminal that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had used during his speech on Thursday (September 24).

As in past UN appearances, Netanyahu used props, holding up a pager linked to an attack that killed and wounded Iran-backed Hezbollah members in Lebanon and a Starlink satellite internet receiver he said he would leave for the Iranian delegation.

Danon said the device could help "the Iranian people get their freedom after what you did to them,” as the diplomat turned away without responding.

The exchange came months after Iran imposed a nationwide internet blackout in January 2026 in response to widespread protests across the country.

Iran officially lifted the internet restrictions in late May, ending a shutdown that had lasted for several months.

Netanyahu mounted a forceful defence of Israel's actions in the region at the UN on Thursday, seeking to counter growing international isolation ahead of elections he could lose, as dozens of delegates streamed out.

If you heard the Prime Minister, it's going to be very useful for you to allow the Iranian people to get their freedom after what you did to them.
