STORY: Israeli strikes on Gaza left 16 dead and several wounded on Saturday (July 12), medical sources said.

One strike targeted a tent encampment in al-Mawasi Khan Younis, which Israel designated as a humanitarian area.

Eyewitness from al-Mawasi, Muhanad Qusaih said that a drone was hovering above and dropped on the tents, killing 10 people, and wounding others.

Wafa Abu Raida, who was spared from the strike was away getting water, two of her children now lie in the intensive care unit while the rest, including her husband died in the strike, she explained.

The strike came as ceasefire talks continue in Doha.

Delegations from Israel and Hamas have been in Qatar since Sunday in a renewed push for an agreement which envisages a phased release of hostages, Israeli troop withdrawals and discussions on ending the war entirely.

The war began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

Israel's subsequent military assault has killed more than 56,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza health ministry, displaced almost the entire 2.3 million population and plunged the enclave into a humanitarian crisis.
