Berna (Suiza)

STORY: Spanish supporters were celebrating in Bern on Friday (July 19) after Spain forward Athenea del Castillo came off the bench to open the scoring and Claudia Pina added a superb second as they beat hosts Switzerland 2-0 to reach the women's Euros semi-finals, where they will face France or Germany.

For the best part of an hour, the hosts defended doggedly and attacked on the break, but once Spain found their groove they were able to quickly kill the game off with two expertly-taken goals.

After the match, in front of the Wankdorf Stadium, the Spanish fans were dancing, chanting and playing drum.

“They could have scored both penalties and we would have won 4-0. But hey, they did very well all things considered, as always,” said Spanish fan, Moria Moreno.

Swiss fans were sad but proud of their team, having made the knockout stages for the first time.

“Great, great performance from Switzerland. So we're proud of the team,” said Eva Fasel.
