Washington D. C. (EEUU)

STORY: U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday (June 27) he won't stop trade negotiations with the European Union, after abruptly cutting off trade talks with Canada over its tax targeting U.S. technology firms.

During an Oval Office event, Trump was asked if he's considering a similar fate for the Europeans but he said he won't halt the talks, though he said they had been "tough."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday (June 26) the EU had received the "latest U.S. document" for further negotiations on tariffs but did not reveal details of Washington's demands.

The U.S. and EU have held a number of negotiating sessions in recent weeks, but the Trump administration's attention has shifted to the conflict over Iran's nuclear program and keeping a trade truce with China on track.

A July 9 deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump for the EU and other countries to reach a tariff-reducing deal with the U.S. is fast approaching.

JOURNALIST OFF CAMERA ASKING: "You said a moment ago that it won't work out very well for Europe on trade. Does that mean you want to cut off those negotiations as well?"

TRUMP: "No, Europe has been very tough. The European Union was formed in order to take advantage of the United States on trade. That was why they were formed. And they're nasty, they're very nasty. We have a good relationship. I'm dealing with Ursula (von der Leyen) right now and the group. But it's it's a very, it's a very tough situation. They have been unbelievably bad to us. If you look at past presidents, they've treated them very badly. They're being very nice to me because I get it. I know the system and we have the cards. We have the cards far more than they do."

They're constantly suing Apple and Google and all of these companies and getting, you know, in front of judges that essentially almost worked for them. I guess they do work for them. The European Union judges."
