STORY: A group of protesters occupied the steps of Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.on Friday (June 13) amid a rally organised by veterans opposing the upcoming U.S. Army anniversary parade.

Footage posted on social media showed the protesters breaking through the barrier fencing and running towards Capitol Hill to occupy its steps. Some were heard chanting "money for people, not parades".

Reuters was able to independently verify the location by the DC Capitol building facade and design which matched file and satellite imagery. The date when the videos was verified by corroborating reports.

Saturday's (June 14) event, which will coincide with Trump's 79th birthday, includes an Army birthday festival on the National Mall and will culminate with a parade through the capital and an enlistment and re-enlistment ceremony presided over by the president.
