S605-EEUU MEMORIAL GEORGE FLOYD CINCO AÑOS
STORY: Nearly five years after George Floyd was murdered by then-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, loved ones and the community returned to the location where Floyd's life ended to honor him.
Yellow roses covered the street corner at 38th and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, now known as George Floyd Square, Friday (May 23), as dozens of people showed up to commemorate Floyd.
Video of Floyd's death shocked the world and sparked protests across the globe with demonstrators demanding racial justice.
"Watching the video is never easy, I can't watch the video all the way through, cause the emotion that I feel," said Mahalia Jones, Floyd's aunt.
Despite the uprising that followed Floyd’s murder, Congress never passed legislation aimed at reducing racial profiling and the use of force by police.
On Wednesday (May 21), the U.S. Justice Department dismissed police reform and oversight agreements in Minneapolis and Louisville, where Floyd and Breonna Taylor were killed by police.
Floyd's family says they won't allow the Trump administration or anyone else deter them from advocating for racial justice.
