S604-VENEZUELA FANS CELEBRAN CLASIFICACION MUNDIAL
Soccer fans celebrated the Venezuela's national team 2-0 victory over Bolivia on Friday (June 6).
The win helped Fifa's ranked 47th team maintain their crucial playoff position in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, bringing them to the brink of making history, as they inch closer than ever to competing in their first World Cup.
Fans turned out in the hundreds at a plaza in the country's capital Caracas to watch a screening of the match.
"We're all in, we're going to qualify and fulfil every Venezuelan's dream of experiencing a World Cup", said one fan.
Salomon Rondon, Venezuela's captain and top scorer, netted the second goal in the 30th minute with an assist from Nahuel Ferraresi, in front of 52,000 fans at the Monumental Stadium in Maturin.
With the win, Venezuela reached 18 points and remain seventh in the group standings, one place away from automatic qualification. The seventh-placed finisher of the regional group will go into the FIFA Play-Off Tournament.
Venezuela will face Uruguay at the Centenario Stadium on Tuesday (June 10), while Bolivia will host Chile at the El Alto Stadium on the same date.
