S044-ISRAEL ATAQUE IRANI A ESCUELA
An Iranian missile launched towards central Israel, carrying a cluster warhead, hit at least 10 sites including a kindergarten on Saturday (March 21), the mayor for Rishon Lezion said.
Mayor of the central Israeli city, Raz Kinstlich, told Reuters outside the kindergarten that if the attack were to happened during a school day, the results could be more severe.
A still photo published by Israel's police showed a destroyed room of the kindergarten, filled with debris and craters in the walls.
Israel and Iran attacked each other on Saturday as the U.S. was sending thousands more Marines to the Middle East and President Donald Trump accused NATO allies of cowardice over their reluctance to help open the Strait of Hormuz.
Among the missiles Iran has fired at Israel are some with cluster munition warheads that are harder for Israel's missile defence shields to neutralize.
More than 2,000 people have been killed since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, while global energy prices have surged and concerns about a drawn-out regional conflict were increasing.

"We are now at one of the sites where a cluster warhead hit Rishon Lezion, again. We have over 10 sites on this difficult morning. Here behind us -- it looks ok from here -- but we're at a kindergarten that is in total ruins, a kindergarten that we won't be able to bring children back to anytime soon, but we will do whatever needed so it can happen as soon as possible. The missile penetrated through the ceiling and exploded, it's just total destruction. Think about it: Today is Saturday (sabbatical day in Israel) but they want us to re-open the education system at this time. If this was to happen on a Sunday (weekday in Israel), Monday or Tuesday when the education system is operating, and with children in the kindergarten -- I don't want to think of what would have happened."
