STORY: Hundreds of motorcycle-riding Santas paraded through Sofia on Saturday (December 20) as the Bulgarian capital counts down to Christmas.

As well as bringing smiles to Christmas shoppers, the annual ride raises money for charitable causes like school supplies and treats for children in care.

Organiser Georgi Yanchev said he estimated 200-300 Santas were taking part this year.

"For the tenth consecutive year, we are organising this motorcycle ride, the idea is charitable and aims to bring joy to the children and guests of the city of Sofia. After touring the capital's boulevards, we stop at the final point and distribute treats to the children, who can take photos with the motorcycles."

"Our charitable campaign, with which we hope to bring smiles, is also the reason we will visit a children's home in the town of Roman tomorrow, a place we visit three or four times a year. We plan to bring necessary supplies, treats for the children, as well as school supplies."
