S024-AFGANISTAN LLEGADA DE AYUDA HUMANITARIA CHINA
Following a devastating earthquake in Afghanistan that claimed over 2,000 lives and caused widespread destruction, China is preparing to send its first batch of emergency humanitarian aid to the Afghan capital Kabul as part of a 50 million yuan (about 7 million U.S. dollars) relief package.
Preparations have been underway at Zhengzhou International Airport in central China's Henan Province since Saturday morning, with teams packing and loading supplies, including tents and blankets for those affected. Normally handled in warehouses, this urgent mission moved all packing directly to the cargo terminal.
The flight is scheduled to take off Sunday morning at around 04:00 Beijing time and is expected to reach Kabul at about 09:00 local time.
A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on August 31, with the epicenter located 27 kilometers northeast of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar Province. The Afghan Red Crescent Society confirmed on Thursday that the earthquake had caused 2,205 fatalities and 3,640 injuries.
