S019-RU PROTESTAS VISITA TRUMP EDIMBURGO
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the U.S. consulate in Edinburgh on Saturday (July 26) to protest President Donald Trump's visit to Scotland.
Protesters listened to speeches and held signs and placards criticising Trump. The demonstration took place on the same day as Trump played golf on his Turnberry course on the western coast of Scotland.
"I'm very much against everything that Trump stands for and what he's doing in America," one of the protesters, Louise McSorley, said.
"It's just to to send a signal that there are the majority of the people in the world don't agree with what he's doing," Gabriele Negro, an Italian who works at the University of Edinburgh, said of Trump's immigration policies and stance on Gaza.
The U.S. President arrived in Scotland on Friday (July 25), with hundreds of people on hand to watch the arrival in Glasgow of Air Force One, the presidential aircraft.
Trump will travel in coming days to his property near Aberdeen, where he will open a second course named after his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, who was born and raised on a Scottish island before emigrating to the United States.
Trump also told reporters on arriving that he will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
