STORY: Palestinians fleeing Gaza City moved along the coastal road in central Gaza on Saturday (September 27), with some waiting for transport after what they described as increasingly intense military operations in recent days.

Rami Al-Hassi, an injured resident from Gaza City, walked from the city with his artificial leg toward the southern side of the strip.

He said that he had to leave the city, as Israel intense it's operation.

"There were airstrikes, from the quadcopter, shellings from tanks, from the ships also, and targeted all the houses. We didn't have other options we had to leave without cloths, we don't have blanket or cloths or anything," father of two children said.

Israeli forces pushed deeper towards the heart of Gaza City, and tanks have been seen in populated and built-up areas.

Israel has regularly said it took steps to avoid hitting civilians. Israel says it is seeking to eliminate militants from Hamas, which attacked southern Israel from Gaza in 2023, and free hostages still held by the group.

Hamas' October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel killed 1,200 people, and 251 others were taken hostage, according to Israeli tallies.

Israel's two-year-long campaign has killed more than 65,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to Gazan health authorities, and has spread famine, demolished most buildings, and displaced most of the territory's population, in many cases multiple times.
