A gas leak triggered an explosion and fire that killed one person and injured at least a dozen others on Saturday (January 24).

The fire swept through the top two floors of a 17-story apartment building in the Bronx section of New York. Firefighters were already on the scene responding to reports of a possible gas leak when the explosion occurred.

Residents were forced to evacuate the building in the early hours and brave bitterly cold temperatures as officials investigated.
