STORY: Pope Leo on Saturday (August 15) said he continued to pray for the people of Colombia, who were struck earlier this week by a deadly earthquake.

Speaking on the Catholic feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a major summer holiday in Italy, he also remembered communities around the world that are enduring suffering, including those in the Holy Land, as well as the Russian and Ukrainian peoples, and Christians facing discrimination or persecution. A 7.5-magnitude quake jolted cities across Colombia's western region on Monday (August 10), leaving at least 285 people dead, 3,975 others injured, and 378 missing, according to data released by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management on Friday (August 14).
